"Hosting Ghost" is a site-specific exhibition set in Denmark's oldest assembly halls dating back to 1880.The title, "HOSTING GHOSTS," derives from Marcel Duchamp's wordplay, "A Guest + A Host = A Ghost." This title invites reflection on the notions of guest, host, and ghost and their intricate relationships. Typically, we envision people gathering in the physical world when considering guests and hosts, with hospitality involving mutual openness and welcome. Something that aligns with the purpose of an assembly hall. However, the ghost represents a more enigmatic presence, existing between individuals, while transcending mere physicality, and symbolizing hidden dimensions within relationships and history. This connection to the past becomes palpable in a building that is steeped in romantic nationalism and Nordic mythology, hosting 150 years of traditions. These traditions have become ingrained, manifesting as a subtle, lingering performative energy. The national historical context of the assembly hall is both fascinating, but also a reminder of our intricate history in contemporary society. This collision of time and place forms a backdrop for the exhibition, influencing how the artworks interact.
